Nyalebbe
Community
Development Alliance (CDA)
My name is Mado Beriu.
I am chairperson of the CDA.
We registered our organisation in October 2007.
We now are able to establish our identity in the world and demostrate our integrity to you as we seek assistance and advice.
I would like to introduce members of our committee, so you know who we are and who is responsible for our projects.
I am a nurse by profession. I work with a local health clinic, I have a strong sense of commitment to my community and to our development programs.
I am very concerned to mobilize the women in an association so as to fight for their status in the community.
This for me is my top priority in life.
Now here is information on our other members.
Our Vice Chairperson is Achor Meka.
Achor is a retired civil servant who now does domestic farming to earn a living. In Congo there is no pension so after retirement one is supposed to engage in a private business or farming.
Achor is also a development activist and an opinion leader in the community. He is very active much community to programs that lifts up the standards of the community.
Achor is head of a large family – with grandchildren orphaned, he has many to care for.

Adubangio Upio
is Secretary of CDA.
He has a diploma in literature and philosophy and teaches in the Kasengu Secondary School.
Adubangio is assistant to Vincent Ulargiw as representative on the internet. |

Giramia Brinette
is our Treasurer.
Giramia is a primary teacher but not yet registered with the government of Congo and as a disable person makes Kuthambala for sale to supplement her income.
She is very active in development programs – she at one time organized the disabled persons but they could not go far with the association because there was no external help and they did not know where to go or begin to look for help. |
Rev. William Bahemuka Mugenya – Advisor
Mugenya William is the Director of Agape Youth Leadership Training Centre. The centre is concerned about the physical, social, intellectual and spiritual well being of the youth. He is also a member of our Executive committee as an advisor. He had this to say:
The youth in Congo and Mahagi Territory in particular are strong, with vision but are misled and marginalized. Agape [our organisation] is in Mahagi because the Alur people and Angal community in particular can easily embrace development once given opportunity and supported. Agape is recognized by the Congo government and is in partnership with all the youth organizations. The Nyalebbe initiative has our deep interest and support. |
In this picture is Ugwaru Richard, one of the executive committee (Advisor) standing next to his passion fruit garden. He sells some and also gets juice for his family.
He is a coordinator of AIDD, a local NGO registered up to the National level.
He believes in development at the grass roost. He had this to say:
Development is for us the grass root people. We need to embrace it with all our hearts if it is to succeed because poverty effects every one of us either directly or indirectly. That is why every one has a role to play in alleviating it.
We also need to know that it is by our sweat that our land will develop; no one will come from abroad or any where else to develop it for us, so it is high time we stood up and worked for it. |
Vincent Ulargiw, our coordinator, is a member of the Executive committee ex-officio.
Vincent also represents us on the internet, including with Nabuur.com.
Vincent has a Diploma in Social Work, Certificate in Strategic Procurement and Logistics Management and is currently a year two student at Uganda Martyrs University, pursuing a Degree in Democracy and Development Studies. |

Justine Urochi
member of the executive.
Justine is a member to the executive committee, she is a married woman, also very active when it comes to development issues. |

Unwanga Jeomette
member of the executive.
Unwanga is a house wife; she has no any other source of income apart from selling small domestic commodities in the market and doing domestic farming.
Unwanga is a member of the Executive Committee. |
Bedijo Ukungo Deo - Mobilizer
Deo (sitting under the roof of his hut, with his son looking on) is an agricultural field extension worker for Anghal Collectivité.
Deo is our mobilizer. He is a very hard working young man in his late 30s,
To him the vocational training centre will engage the
Community in practical skills: Most people think
that help will come from above but this not true. We must work for ourselves. We are so blessed that
such an organisation has been set up in our community, we have
waited for this opportunity for so long so, it is our
turn to demonstrate to the world that that we can also do something.
Not forgetting that some one who teaches you how to fish is better than some one who gives you one fish. |
